Devlog #1 - A fresh start

Hello and welcome to the first official devlog for my game Rockshaw Meadows.

Rockshaw Meadows is a cozy farming rpg, with elements of cooking, crafting and exploration. It's a journey through storytelling I've wanted to do for ages. Inspired by games like Stawdew Valley, Harvest Moon and similar, the setting will feel familiar but different to players.

I don't have much in the way of visual progress to demonstrate here yet, because the past two weeks I've been setting up the basics, re-learning the Godot Engine and trying to figure out what direction I wanted to go in for my first game.

Of course the dreams went wild and I considered multiplayer support but I think for the initial vertical slice I'm working on, multiplayer can wait.

Here's what I've worked on over the last two weeks:

  • Adding a basic player
  • Getting some tools in place (hoe, watering can) that function.
  • Planting some basic crops
  • A day night cycle, with support for seasons, and speeding/slowing time for dev purposes.
  • Limiting planting to certain tiles
  • Adding a developer console to make debugging and building the game easier.

I'm building the game in Godot 4.3 and I'm super excited to see the changes from Godot 4 and below.

Stay tuned for more updates!
